Balsamand
Balsamand - A Lake Resort
A lake resort, Balsamand was created in the 12th century by the Parihar Rajputs of Mandore, and was simply taken over by Jodhpur's Rathore rulers who converted it into a pleasure resort. Gardens were laid around the artificial lake along with a summer palace.Today, Balsamand consists of large public gardens, and also shelters a small bird sanctuary for, mainly, waterbirds.
Balasamand Lake Palace: Located to the edge of a 13th century lake that was artificially developed in the desert, Balsamand consists of a red sandstone palace that was used for hunts and for royal excursions. Only a short drive out of Jodhpur, but close to the sand dunes of the desert, and within easy access of the medieval temples of Osian, this is a charming place to visit and stay in.
