Today, Bharatpur is better known for its bird sanctuary, the Keoladeo Ghana National Park, with a teeming population of waterbirds that are both resident and migrant by nature.
Golbagh Palace: The former residence of the rulers of Bharatpur, and over one hundred years old, the
hotel has 110 rooms, most of them palatial, as well as 12 suites.
Laxmi Vilas Palace: Exactly
a hundred years old this year, and built for a royal prince, it soon became the zenana mahal or princess' palace. Its delicate cupolas and massive sandstone gateway guard an interior rich with frescos, courtyards, and large rooms. Now a hotel with 22 rooms and a restaurant, it has original furniture and objets d'art still in use.
