Jaisalmer
Jaisalmer Heritage Hotels
The kingdom of the Bhattis is one of the most desolate outposts in the world, rising abruptly out of the desert. Descendents of Krishna, these Rajputs created a magnifIcent capital for themselves, and turned the local sandstone into fIligree, carving and piercing it to create amazingly complex architecture. Jaisalmer still wears that sense of desolation, its fort with its ninety-nine bastions a living legacy where descendents of the families who have lived in this citadel for centuries, still reside in the homes of their ancestors.
Jaisalmer also has some incredibly beautiful havelis.Mandir Palace: This royal palace was first built in 1825, and additions were later made to it. Constructed of yellow sandstone, it has an imposing entrance, a fully carved Durbar Hall with coloured tiles, and a terrace Badal Mahal which has canopies where one can take the air. From here, the sunset is dramatic, and there are views all over the citadel. The palace has 10 rooms.
