Samode

The Nathawats of Samode played an important role in the durbar of Jaipur where they served as prime ministers. Their thikana, which is located in a charming village, is surrounded by fertile fields, while a ring of sharp hills was the seat for their fortifications. Awarded by one of the Kachchwaha rulers of Amber to one of his twelve sons four-and-a­half centuries ago, the palace became known for the high quality of its frescos, and particularly in the use of indigo colours, and the richly painted Durbar Hall. It is only recently that the fairytale palace was reconverted into a hotel. Samode is 45 km from Jaipur.

Samode Bagh: This garden retreat, close to the palace, was the place members of the Samode family came to escape the blazing heat of the summers. Laid in the Mughal style, with huge trees and water channels and fountains, and with pavilions overlooking it, the Bagh has become the site for a tented camp in the winter season. These 50 luxury tents are provided with cots and lights, have attached bathrooms, and even space for sitting and relaxing - sure beats camping!

Samode Palace: Narrow flights of stairs, open courtyards with jharokhas overlooking them, large rooms fitted with furnishings suited to the personality of each room, family photogTaphs, the splendid Durbar Hall and the various nooks and corners of this delightful palace provide the perfect setting for a holiday. Each room is different, not only architecturally but also in its use of furniture. The palace has 30 double rooms, and a multi-cuisine restaurant, and entertainment is provided on request.
