Location of Chilika National Park : Arching across the districts of Puri and Ganjam, along the coast of the state of Orissa. The nearest airport is at Bhubaneswar, 100km(60 miles) from Chilika.

Climate of Chilika National Park : Summer is moderately hot (maximum 32°C; 86°F), winter is m.ild (minimum 10°C; 50°F);

When to go ( Chilika National Park) : The winter months (December to March) are best for observing migratory birdlife.

Getting to Chilika National Park : By road via NH5; Balugaon, Barkul, Chilika and Rambha via Khallikote are all strategically located on Chilika Lake along the Howrah-Madras route of the Southeastern Railway. The nearest railhead for the Barkul settlement is at Balugaon. Bus services from all the above centres.

Facilities at Chilika National Park : Orissa Tourism Development Corporation (OTDC) offers reasonably priced accommodation on Satapada island, 50km (30 miles) from the welhknown beach resort of Puri, and at the settlements of Barkul and Rambha. Both have railway stations on the Calcutta..Chennai railway line. OTDC also offers comfortable tourist bungalows at Panthanivas and the A§hoka hotel at BalugaoJ) offers accommodation. Motorboats can be hired; guides are necessary.

Avian life of Chilika National Park : The lagoon, one of the biggest inland lakes in India, is a sanctuary and winter haven for thousands of migratory birds.

Permits and Reservations for Chilika National Park : Tourists can obtain assistance and further information from the following centres: Tourist Office at Panthanivas, Rambha, Chilika, Orissa; or Tourist Office, Station Road, Berhampur, Orissa.
