Gorumara National Park

Location of Gorumara National Park : In the terai belt of the Himalayan foothills in the Jaldapara district of West Bengal. The nearest airport is Siliguri, 78km (48 miles) west of the park; buses from here to Jalpaiguri, the most convenientlY located town after Gorumara. Chalsa, 14km (9 miles) from Gorumara, is the nearest railhead.

Climate of Gorumara National Park : Winters are bitterly cold (minimum 7°C; 45°F), while summer is moderately hot (35°C; 95°F).

When to go (Gorumara National Park) : Best time to visit the park is from November to April..

Getting to Gorumara National Park : Cars for hire are available from Siliguri, Chalsa and Jal paig u ri.

Facilities at Gorumara National Park : A well-equipped (good cooking facilities) forest rest house lies in the park and provides excellent facilities for wildlife viewing. Watchtower located here, and another at Garati with overnight facilities. It is advisable to carry provisions from Chalsa, 10km (6 miles) away. Elephant rides can be organized in the park (prior permission is necessary).

Wildlife in Gorumara National Park : Major mammal species are the Great Indian One-horned Rhinocerus, Indian Elephant, Indian Bison,Sambhar, and Jackal..

Permits and Reservations for Gorumara National Park : Prior permission has to be obtained from the forest department for elephant rides. For accommodation reservations, contact: DiVisional Forest Officer, Wildlife Division II, Siliguri, Darjeeliun District, West Bengal.
