Of the 8650 species of birds in the world, India is home to as many as 1200 (roughly 14%), out of which 141 are endemic to this region. Interestingly, ornithologists have classified birdlife into 27 Orders and 155 Families and India boasts of 20 Orders and 77 Families.

Many of the North-Eastern region of India is quite a mystery. But if you were to visit the flood plains of the Brahmaputra River in Assam, you`d stumble across one of India`s best kept secret - "Kaziranga - The RHINO LAND". Often referred to as the "Land of Giants", the riverine habitat consists primarily of tall, dense grasslands and tropical wet evergreen forests. Interconnecting streams and numerous small lakes or `Bheels` dot the eastern Himalayan landscape.
